La Rambla de Montevideo

This is mostly a photo post, meant to show my friends from overseas one of my favorite places in my city: the rambla; that's the way we call that area next to the water--a river that looks like a sea.

As you see, there's a beach and people go there, but the water is brownish most days, because it's not that much near the ocean. Some 50 kms (31 miles) away from the city, the water starts to get blue, cleaner, and more inviting. However, I've enjoyed the water in Montevideo too.

For some good days I kept the routine of daily walking at this wonderful place and I felt excellent in every sense; later, different things happened that damaged my mood and I finally stopped my walks, but it is my intention to retake them soon.

Coincidentally, the last day of my walk, as if anticipating the break, I took my camera to take a few pictures and finally took one of every beautiful sight in my way.

I hope you enjoy them and these pictures convince those friends of mine who don't know Uruguay to come and visit me at some point.

The pictures here are in order, as I returned home that day.

Next picture shows a solitary old and very interesting house in the middle of tall buildings... a pity they didn't leave ANY space in between. The architect who built this house, who was also his owner, was an alchemist and the house is full of symbols.

Even if this is one of the best neighbourhoods of the city, Montevideo is half surrounded by the rambla. The sight of water is something we miss when we visit some other cities that don't have this privilege. The use of the rambla and the beach is enjoyed by people in general, of all ages, and a crowded rambla is common to see at sunsets during summer.

Now you have a better idea of where I live, right?

Much love!
Patricia
